This tutorial will go over how to display linked lists from AlgoExpert in VS Code

During my job search, I’ve been studying data structures and algorithms, as they are not covered in bootcamps. There are many resources to learn DS&A, from courses to books, to videos. I decided to purchased AlgoExpert because of my learning style and their video explanations. Although their platform has everything you need to solve the problems, I like practicing on VS Code, as that’s the IDE I use. I was able to practice this way until I got to linked lists. The Problem

My intro to Microsoft Azure and how I used it during a hackathon.

A couple of weeks ago, I participated in the TechTogether Seattle 2021 Virtual Hackathon. Although this wasn’t my first hackathon, it was very impactful as I set out to learn new technology. I had been curious about the cloud, and since Microsoft was one of the sponsors of the event, I figured this would be a great opportunity to learn! After attending a workshop offered during the hackathon, I set up an account (if you are in school, Microsoft provides student accounts that include a $100 credit…

How to hide your API key in a React app, Netlify environment set up, and the issue I encountered.

It’s the day before an internship application is due, and the only thing left is deploying my React app. After using Netlify to deploy, I check one more time to see that everything is working correctly. I type a movie title in the search bar and hit enter, nothing. I reload the page and do it again, nothing. I open it up in VSCode, run my server, and search, everything is working how it should be. …

This article walks through deploying your React application to Netlify. If you would like to host your app on Github Pages read my post here.

Recently I created a React app as a part of my application process for an internship. When it came to hosting, I deployed it to both Netlify and Heroku to get experience with their platforms. This article however, will focus on Netlify.

Getting Started

To get started make sure you have the following set up before getting started

  • A Netlify account
  • Application ready to deploy

A reflection of my first hackathon and what I would do differently.

Yesterday concluded my first hackathon. From beginning to end, The Valtech Social Impact Hackathon was 52 1/2 hours, a little over 2 days! You may be thinking, “Two days to do a hackathon, ok, but what is it exactly?”. According to Wikipedia, a hackathon is a design sprint-like event; often, in which computer programmers and others collaborate intensively on software projects. The goal of a hackathon is to create functioning software or hardware by the end of the event. Depending on the hackathon, there may be certain requirements…

This step by step guide walks through adding a PDF to an application.

While creating my website, I wanted to display my resume, which is in PDF format. Although I was able to embed it, I didn’t like its display and looked for a different option. I chose to use React-PDF. Please be aware that your PDF will display as an image.

  1. Install React-PDF

Install React-PDF by entering the following in your terminal:

$ npm install react-pdfOR$ yarn add react-pdf

2. Import files

Once installed, import React-PDF and your files into your component as follows:

This article will show you how to embed Medium blog posts in your React application, using State and Effect Hooks.

Since graduation from Flatiron School’s Software Engineering Bootcamp, I’ve been working on putting together my personal website. In addition to showcasing my projects, I wanted to have my Medium posts available. In this article, I will walk you through embedding your blog posts on your website but if you would like to learn how to deploy your website for free you can view my previous post here.

This article will show you how to deploy your React application to Github Pages. There is also an optional step to add a custom domain URL.

When it comes to hosting a website there are many options and it can be a bit overwhelming. Luckily GitHub Pages allows for deployment of your application directly from your GitHub repository! It is a free platform that allows for static site hosting, using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, but what if you want to host a React application? There’s a way to do that too!

Getting Started

To get started make sure you have the following…

21 weeks. 21 weeks, that’s how long I was a part of Flatiron’s Software Engineering Bootcamp. Granted the in-person (aka online due to Covid) program is 15 weeks long but we’ll get there. Also, Coffee, Tea or Me is the title of a fictitious book about flight attendants, however the title stuck in the industry….but just in case I have to make it clear…I have never sold or offered myself to passengers (no shame in it but just not my style). Now that that is out of the way…my journey.

I was celebrating Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, worked a…

Imagine working on your project for a few days, taking a break, and coming back to a console and server that no longer run. After some mild hyperventilating, you start to follow the suggestions Rails gives you, install [this], update [that], bundle lock [that other thing], but nothing. That was me this morning! To be honest I can’t even remember what the original error was but after blindly following Rails’ instructions for a longer time than I want to admit I turned to the internet.
